About the Company
Southeast Preservation specializes in the research and assessment of historic buildings and sites. This includes investigation of physical characteristics and material properties as well as history and contextual significance.
The mission of Southeast Preservation is to provide exceptional architectural conservation and preservation services to individuals and organizations in Louisiana and the southeastern United States. As part of this mission, Southeast Preservation endeavors to use flexibility, creativity, and careful planning to make these services accessible to a wide range of clients who reflect the great variety of our architectural heritage. In conjunction with providing these services, it is a primary goal of Southeast Preservation to spread the understanding of our built heritage through public education.
Behind this mission is the belief that people are deeply affected by their built environment and that our historic structures are imbued with qualities that positively affect us both subconsciously through site and touch, and rationally, by the lessons they teach and the stories they tell. Therefore, Southeast Preservation is dedicated to the history, craft, and science of our built environment.
Southeast Preservation is owned and operated by Laura Ewen Blokker. Laura has been working in the field of preservation since 1998. Her professional experience includes employment in both the for-profit and the non-profit sectors in the positions of Architectural Staff, Conservation Assistant, and Preservation Manager. Through each of these positions, she has gained excellent and varied experience in the documentation, assessment and treatment of historic structures, monuments and sites. She holds a Master of Preservation Studies from the Tulane University School of Architecture in New Orleans, Louisiana and a B.A. in Creative Writing with an individually designed minor in Architecture from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Laura’s complete resume is available upon request.
